It’s pretty much the easiest “religion”. It’s not subjective in the least. Just follow the scientific method as “the Word” and there really shouldn’t be any confusion. Here are the basic tenets found in one of its holy scriptures, Wikipedia:

• Need to test beliefs – A conviction that dogmas, ideologies and traditions, whether religious, political or social, must be weighed and tested by each individual and not simply accepted on faith.

Except I’m going to have to add here, it’s not just simply accepted on faith- there is NO faith involved. This is also a great example of how “doubt” can actually make you a STRONGER follower.

• Reason, evidence, scientific method – A commitment to the use of critical reason, factual evidence and scientific methods of inquiry, rather than faith, in seeking solutions to human problems and answers to important human questions.

Not sure why this is a separate idea from the first idea, once again, I’m doubting the scripture but not the algorithm.

• Fulfillment, growth, creativity – A primary concern with fulfillment, growth and creativity for both the individual and humankind in general.

Alright, so this could be subjective- but that’s only because of the “Humanism” part which is flavored by cult ure.

I am VERY concerned about the growth of this human being

• Search for truth/education– A constant search for objective truth, with the understanding that new knowledge and experience constantly alter our imperfect perception of it.

Which means you always have to be willing to admit when you’re are wrong, and thus I am a hypocrite…or am I…since I just admitted that…

This is why SH is so cool because even if you admit you’re wrong, you’re right. Sinning is impossible!

• This life – A concern for this life (as opposed to an afterlife) and a commitment to making it meaningful through better understanding of ourselves, our history, our intellectual and artistic achievements, and the outlooks of those who differ from us.

• Ethics – A search for viable individual, social and political principles of ethical conduct, judging them on their ability to enhance human well-being and individual responsibility.

Whatever.

• Building a better world – A conviction that with reason, an open exchange of ideas, good will, and tolerance, progress can be made in building a better world for ourselves and our children.

This tenet is imperative in making SH seem more selfless, if you don’t like humans I suggest you just try the Secular part – Atheism and more shamefully, Agnosticism

This is only one of the many rumors that are being pumped out faster than Mariah Carey’s stomach. And they’re working. Step aside “Mean Girls” there’s a new popular clique in school and it’s called “Mean White Haired Dudes”.

All over the nation, people are FREAKING out at town hall meetings, making this the decade of slightly less boring town hall meetings. The issue is already an emotional one but now these rumors have the confused and less informed, terrified.

And when I say freaking out, I mean you got little old ladies screaming, waving canes, and general 40 year old virgin type violence. There’s even gramps leaping out of his seat, wielding a walker and making every effort to fit in with the ballistic crowd so no one notices he has absolutely no idea where he is, let alone who’s president. And you know why he’s afraid to admit he’s got dementia? Because he’s got dementia! And also because he doesn’t want to be taken to a hospital (where they pull plugs). Grandmas and Grandpas beware! Or don’t beware, that may just be a rumor.

Not only is the business of the health care bill baffling for many Americans but now they have no clue what’s going on. People have given up all hope of making sense of it. Instead of defending themselves with knowledge many have decided to go with the more familiar coping mechanism, anger or fear.

Just the other day a woman asked Rep. Allen Boyd at one of these meetings, if health care reform proposals would force people to allow government access their bank accounts. Of course the Democrats deny this but just in case, CNN hired fact checkers to determine whether the bank access rumor is true or not, and it’s not.

“It’s hyperbolic, it’s fear-mongering, it’s actually politics at its worst,” Daschle said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “That’s the kind of thing that generates the kind of anger and fear and anxiety that people have today.”

Wendell Potter is a former insurance company communications executive and exposed the insurance industry practice of deliberately spreading false information to disrupt the debate.

TO do this apparently the insurance industry hires public relations firms that create front groups to try to “destroy health care reform” said Potter.

Yesterday, around 5pm an Earthquake with a 7.0 magnitude devastated an already crestfallen community of Port-Au-Prince.

President Obama came to the rescue informing Haiti via talking to other Americans who then told reporters that he will be sending his thoughts and prayers.

Haitian’s living in New York (and other less important states) must wait until telecommunication is back up and running in their homeland before they can hear from their loved ones.

Well at least there’s kind of a hospital the survivors can go to…oh wait, it collapsed in the quake.

So these people are pretty much screwed. If you’re some recent college graduate deciding whether to take a road trip or enter the peace corps, why not hop on over and help out. Try goggling “help Haiti”.

I’ve been spending every waking hour for the last few months helping to develop a revolutionary technology. It’s a new way to watch radio. Yes, I said “watch”. Shovio Broadcasting “Talk Back TV”

TBTV’s mission is a democratic one interested in changing the face of broadcasting as we know it. American Mass Media these days fill the radio and airwaves with what most of us would consider digital pieces of fiber-less turds.  (Shovio itself is non-biased politically but I’m not.)

Today’s mass media sucks. TV is generally horrible, and we all know the unfortunate turn that news broadcasting has taken. So then, if most of us agree, instead of complaining yet LETTING our fellow Americas watch what we know to be crap, why not make it better?

1) Why Media should be educational, just ask Plato

a. With a better educated America we can foster a happier society

b. Plato believed education’s primary role should be to teach good character, citizenship, and strong leadership, and produce “sociable and happy citizens”, keeping each child’s personal interest and aptitude in mind by encouraging CREATIVITY.

c. An educated America will cultivate a more productive society advancing beyond our foreign counterparts

-  Other countries are FAR beyond ours academically, but we have a unique constitution just waiting for us to tap into and unleash our boundless potential.    THAT is the very idea that laid the governmental foundation of America.

d. School is boring so people turn to t.v.

- America’s public school system emerged during the Industrial Revolution answering the need for cheap labor, and a lot of it. Child labor became all the rage for factory owners. These owners subsidized public schools but not for the purpose of educating them to their fullest ability.

-  This is why children weren’t encouraged to think critically or independently. In fact, creativity was stifled as it would only create trouble making one less motivated to do crap work. Sheep that stayed in line were rewarded.

e. Quality programming is not just a necessity, it’s in demand

-  Studies show that people want quality content but will settle for what they are given. Somewhere down the line, this concept was ignored by those controlling mass media.

2) Our underlying governmental system encourages this platform

a. Take full advantage of the freedom of speech-SPEAK UP. What better way to keep the media dictators in check then to hand over control to the people?

b. Current leaders of our country (government, big business etc.) want to keep you distracted

-  Rupert Murdoch and FOX Network’s Political Agenda-to get as many Americans voting Republican for his own selfish motives (read about it)

3) This is the new radio/TV-capable of being more informative and cooperative

a. You know why wiki works so well, right?

-  Supports the democratization of knowledge and information. No longer are people just the content consumers but are now the content producers.

-  Just as informative and accurate as an encyclopedia in print, if not more so because of rapid updates

b.     BUT Shovio is even MORE effective because

-  Immediate responses and corrections through a conversation in real time

-  Serves as public forum through the ability to talk back/give opinions

-  What better way to learn then with the wisdom of the crowd? When they   say “it takes a village,” that doesn’t mean a single staff of biased writers.

-  The “every-man” should call-in with his/her honest, uninformed opinions on what the host is saying.

Crises are in style, folks. Mid-life crises, identity crises, ‘my baby ain’t mine’ or ‘my baby ain’t yours’ crises, and of course the ubiquitous ‘financial crisis’. Some Americans may think that the state of our national economy is not unlike that of the latest fashion trend. Just as one would not be caught dead in leg warmers in 1990, young people in 2009 are loathe to show a good credit report. Ripped jeans were apropos in the age of grunge, and today good credit and savings accounts are ‘so 2008’.

The treaty START I (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) that was made between the US and the USSR in 1982 is due to expire Dec. 5th. Regan presented the first START proposal during his presidency in 1982 proposing that nuclear proliferation be significantly reduced.

The first mistake was putting an expiration date on the thing. Who would do that? Why not just say “Hey Russia, don’t make so many warheads, forever”.

The second mistake was calling it START. It has quite a motivating ring to it not to mention it must be a pretty confusing name to give a treaty intended to STOP the proliferation of nuclear arms.

Yeah, I think that would be a better name for it, STOP (“Stop That Ok, Please” or “Staunch That Opprobrious Production” or “Super-Terrestrial Ordnance Prohibition”).

Well they did a recount and guess everything’s legit. It would have been ridiculous to do the whole election over again or even recount ALL the votes. A partial count should suffice. Out of the portion of votes they recounted Mr Ahmadinejad won by a whopping 63%. OK, so everybody chill.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was re-elected as president of Iran this week to the surprise of none and the chagrin of many. Unfortunately, as the recent outbreaks of riots would suggest, almost half the population turned out to be sore losers. The rest, though, feel it was a fair win and that’s what matters Finally a democratic system the people of Iran can count on!

So how did he do it, you may wonder. How did he win over all those votes? Why, by reusing the inspirational slogan of Obama’s campaign, “Yes We Can!”. On top of that he passed out some potatoes, thus winning the love and respect of the majority of the country’s population. Because who could resist voting for such a hip and progressive dude? He’s even reconsidered his initial claim that Iranian homosexuals do not exist, admitting there is a possibility of a few of them out there, it’s just that they look nothing like real Iranians so he couldn’t tell at first. Can’t blame him for that!

He also wears cool jackets without ties causing some to mistake him for a tool when in fact it’s just that he can’t and won’t hide how suave and indifferent he is.

He’s the smooth care-free yet super smart stud who strolls in 15 minutes late on a test he didn’t study for, stubble and collar popped, slinks into his seat, pulls the pencil out from behind his ear, and aces it. Then he slams his fist down onto the desk all Fonzie-like, propelling the pencil right back in place behind the ear and he leaves first, motorcycle helmet in hand. He’s the kindhearted rebel that gives away potatoes. This re-election will also give him that second chance to prove to the rest of the world that he’s not an arrogant, self-interested ass. He’s hands down the best candidate for the job and that’s why he got it.

Cool, smart…enough, and a little bit generous, wow, way to go Iran! Now if only the party-poopers of the population took a cue from us Americans and kept their mouths shut about all this election rigging nonsense.

Today Meira Kumar was unanimously elected as the first women speaker in India’s Parliament. What is also special about this election is the fact that Kumar is a member of the low-caste Dalit community. Her success as an untouchable also serves to yank our American heart strings, owing to our recent fondness for South Asian underdogs (e.g. Slumdog Millionaire).

For decades Europe has been the seat of many milestones for women but this election proves that women all over the world, from all walks of life, continue to make great strides towards increasing their political participation. It is clear India is making huge efforts to catch up and Kumar inspires hope that even the downtrodden women of the third world may one day rise to the status of, say, perhaps Queen- which is probably the most respected figure head in the world. In many ways, though, Kumar is already there, sharing many of the facets of power that come with being the Queen of England.

To start, both women are familiar with parliament and have to concern themselves daily with the inner workings of such a governmental system. Kumar isn’t the president or anything but she’s got a few duties that will certainly keep her busy. The Queen’s roles on the other hand are probably so vast as I couldn’t even begin to tell you what they are.

Not only do both women hold a highly regarded amount of power but they both come from a less than highly regarded background. Kumar had to rise above discrimination as a Dalit. The Queen managed to prevail after an unbecoming birth by cesarean. This only goes to show a sullied name is not impossible to overcome.

Further proof that it’s not all tea and crumpets to be Queen of England, her majesty recalls a time that she dubbed her “annus horribilis”. This is what truly makes up her dark and shameful past as it is the year she saw,

“her daughter divorced, one son separated and another whose marriage was rocky and on top of that Windsor Castle had suffered severe fire damage, and the monarchy had come under increased criticism and public scrutiny”.

Shaky marriages, fire damage, and being criticized no doubt left her Twinings and gold leaf tea cakes soggy and tear salted-for a least a year.

Both women didn’t end up where they are today without a lifetime of hard work. Kumar began her career first as a lawyer and then moved on to politics.

“In 1973, she joined the Indian Foreign Service and served at embassies in Spain, United Kingdom and Mauritius. While serving for IFS, she also worked in Embassy of India, Madrid from 1976 to 77; she has been the High Commission of India, London from1977 to 79 and Ministry of External Affairs during 1980-85.”

And you can bet her Highness herself has her baby smooth hands full as she is the queen regnant of sixteen independent states they call the Commonwealth realms: Head of the Commonwealth, Supreme Governor of the Church of England, Duke of Normandy, Lord of Mann, and Paramount Chief of Fiji. You need to come from a lot of money to hold titles like these.

Kumar’s work, though, did not end there. The pariah of prestige began her career in electoral politics in 1985. She became a member of the eleventh and twelfth Lok Sabha’s Delhi after impressively defeating several “political heavyweights”. She then became a cabinet member as Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment in 2004. She recently resigned as the Union Minister for Water Resources to take her spot in chair as speaker.

While all of these are incredibly boring but necessary qualifications to becoming speaker, the Queen’s credentials also span the gamut from keen sportswoman holding a few medals for rifle shooting to poetess. Not to mention other claims to fame like gaining the interpreter, swimmer, dancer, horsewoman, cook, child nurse, and needlewoman badges. Probably one of her proudest achievements of all, she eventually became leader of the “Swallow Patrol” (that’s not even a joke).

The women of third world countries like India are still a far way from reaching such momentous positions of distinction but they can thank Kumar’s election for bringing them one step closer, and Kumar can thank the Queen, for…being…an important woman…that’s in politics, sort of.
